Package Manager Deathmatch: Gentoo

Lecture by Alexander Færøy, and Bryan Østergaard at EuroBSDCon in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 15, 2007.

We joined the EuroBSDCon 2007 Deathmatch event at the end of the last day of the conference. A deathmatch is a for-fun event where multiple groups present related software projects, and a set of judges decide the winner at the end. The winner is found based on the groups’ ability to present their project. But also by showing weaknesses of the opponents.

In this deathmatch, we represented the Gentoo Linux project and its package management system. We were “competing” against different members of the BSD community who presented their package management tools.
